Job summary

MKS Instruments in Massachusetts seeks a Director of Advanced Development to lead the Plasma, Reactive Gas, and Controls technology portfolio. You will guide scientists and engineers, shape long-term roadmaps, and enable breakthroughs that differentiate our offerings.

Reporting to senior leadership, you will build a high-performing team, drive IP strategy, manage investments, and partner with product management to transition technologies into scalable products.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in technology development or advanced engineering leadership.
• Proven success leading technology programs from concept to commercialization.
• Experience developing roadmaps and translating objectives into programs.
• Strong understanding of product development processes and TRLs.
• Proven ability to build multidisciplinary teams and manage portfolios.

Responsibilities

• Lead advanced development programs from concept through commercialization.
• Define multi-year technology roadmaps aligned with strategy.
• Build and lead a high-performing team of scientists and engineers.
• Partner with Product Management and Engineering to transition tech into products.
• Oversee budgets, investments, and external collaborations.
• Contribute to IP strategy and patent portfolio development.
