Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) is seeking an expert actuary to direct highly complicated work teams and long-term projects, shaping strategy and delivering written and oral insights to senior leadership for high-level decisions.

The role requires expert actuarial knowledge across areas, strong communication, budgeting, and the ability to build compelling business cases and ROI analyses; telecommute within the continental US.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Economics.
  • FSA and MAAA credentials (or ASA with 4 years in health actuarial work).
  • 7+ years of actuarial experience in health insurance.
  • Verbal and written communications skills to prepare effective documentation, facilitate training and presentations.
  • PC proficiency to include Word and Excel; budgeting experience.
  • Translating needs into compelling business cases and conducting cost-benefit analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Directs highly complicated work teams and manages long-term projects and work streams.
  • Ensures appropriate modeling and drives strategy for tools, technology and resources.
  • Monitors compliance with applicable requirements and Actuarial Standards of Practice.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for directing highly complicated work teams of actuaries, long term projects and work streams or for providing insight and guidance to highly complicated long term projects and work streams that require unique skills. Setting or participating in setting the strategy for success in the area. And developing compelling written and oral presentations to senior leadership that clearly drive the delivery of information for high-level decision making. Must also possess and demonstrate an expert level understanding of actuarial concepts, multiple actuarial areas and one or more business segment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensures that the appropriate modeling is being done and that the team continues to develop technically. Develops and drives the strategy for the most appropriate tools, technology and resources for the team to use.
  • Complies with, monitors their staff for compliance with, and ensures their areas have appropriate monitoring in place for all applicable compliance requirements and all Actuarial Standards of Practice.
  • Communicates effectively across the company and with external parties. Ensures that the appropriate information is making its way to all levels of the organization. Has ability to develop compelling written and oral presentations to senior leadership that clearly drive the delivery of information for high-level decision making.
  • Determines strategies to develop and improve key relationships in the areas and with external areas. Determines all areas where key relationships should exist.
  • Understands complex actuarial concepts, multiple actuarial areas and one or more business segment all at expert level. Possesses broad applicable market knowledge and has processes in place to track best practices in their areas of expertise.
  • Directs highly complicated work teams. Manages long term complicated projects and work streams.
  • Manages and develops a team of Directors and below. Supports and guides director in building effective teams.
  • Drives a continuous improvement culture in the department. Improvements result in administrative savings or financial improvements that are recognized by peers and leadership.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Economics. Other Bachelor (or higher) Degrees may be considered.
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). In place of attainment of FSA, 4 years of actuarial experience in the health insurance field at the ASA level may be substituted. Compliance with all the membership requirements for each professional designation.
  • At least 7 years of actuarial experience in the health insurance or related field.
  • Verbal and written communications skills to prepare effective documentation, facilitate training and development, and participate in presentations.
  • PC proficiency to include Word and Excel.
  • Overseeing the annual budget and allocating resources for various projects and operational needs.
  • Translating needs and initiatives into compelling business cases.
  • Conducting cost-benefit analyses to justify investments and ensure ROI.

Base Pay Range

$133,400.00 - $247,700.00
