Custom Job Purpose:
This position exists to perform responsible and professional accounting work. Supervises the financial accounting area of the school district, which includes accounts payable, treasury, and financial accounting. Analyzes all bank and investment accounts at month end to ensure all general ledger accounts within each fund is positive. Works with Senior Accounting Director regarding the investment program of the school district. Initiates cash transfers and wires as needed. Reconciles various bank accounts. Identifies and distributes incoming electronic receipts and monitors for proper timely recording. Manages all Capital funds. Monitors and supervises capital asset acquisitions, transfers, and dispositions. Analyze Capital budgets and expenditures, prepares monthly and yearly reports, makes recommendations for enhanced fiscal management.
Essential Functions of this Job:
- Supervises the work of subordinates in the financial accounting section of the Finance Department.
- Assists the Senior Accounting Director in the operation and supervision of all accounting activities of the school district and acts on his/her behalf when called upon. Responds to employees, vendors, schools, and departments with questions that arise concerning accounting procedures. Administers accounting procedures and maintains proper systems controls. Works with peers in the planning, development, and implementation of the district's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) packages through troubleshooting, systems analysis and testing. Trains and advises subordinate staff and peers in the use of the district's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) packages.
- Prepares accounting schedules, reports, and analyses. Reviews, analyzes, and codes payrolls, deposits, journal vouchers, contract payment requests, and account adjustments for updating budgetary accounting records. Reviews transactions for proper classification and corrects as necessary. Plans, directs, and supervises the account payable function. Analyzes daily cash needs of the district for expenditure payments and investment transfers. Initiates or approves cash transfers and wire payments as needed
- Prepares the monthly financial reports for Senior Accounting Director's, review. Assists with coordinating the preparation of the Annual Financial Report and the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. Plans, directs, and supervises the work of subordinate staff and evaluates work performance. Acts as liaison with external auditors. Assists in developing policies, administrative guidelines and procedural manuals related to financial accounting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of accounting and expenditure control systems and procedures.
- Knowledge of school finance laws, rules, and policies. Knowledge of governmental accounting and financial reporting standards.
- Knowledge of modern office management practices and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) packages including proficiency with Microsoft Office Products, especially spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to use and instruct others in use of the district's accounting software to achieve desired results.
- Ability to prepare complete and accurate accounting reports and statements of considerable complexity.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate accounting problems.
- Ability to make sound decisions based on established policies and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, banking officials, and the public.
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of a subordinate staff.
- Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing.
- Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred; coursework in governmental accounting; prefer a minimum of six years# experience in a professional accounting position including supervisory experience.
- Advanced knowledge of personal computers, related software, and network operation.
- Certified Public Accountant preferred.
