Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Director of Academic and Administrative Services for the Chandra Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Cockrell School of Engineering. The role leads all academic, administrative, financial, business, research administration and HR functions on the UT Main Campus.

Responsibilities include strategic planning for 800+ staff, budget oversight, faculty affairs, and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, education, science or a related field.
• Eight years of experience in successful academic and administrative management in higher education.
• Knowledge of academic and administrative processes supporting a large engineering program, particularly within a public college or university.
• Understanding and ability to converse thoughtfully about topics related to engineering, especially Electrical and Computer Engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically, creatively, and manage details of several concurrent projects.
• Build collaboration and develop opportunities through partnerships across campus.
• Ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all Academic, Administrative, Financial, Business, and Human Resource functions.
• Assist Department Chair with strategic planning for a large organization with 800+ employees and a multi-million dollar budget.
• Oversee budget submissions and reporting including gifts and endowments.
• Coordinate Faculty Affairs processes including reviews, promotions, and appointments.
• Oversee academic advising standards and student graduation/recruitment goals.
• Recruit, hire, and train staff; manage yearly staff evaluations and space allocation.
• Collaborate with External Engagement to secure external funding for ECE programs.
• Serve as department Workday Administrator and oversee cost center management and records maintenance.

Education

Bachelor's degree in business administration, education, science or a related field

Master’s degree in a related field

Eight years of academic/administrative management experience

Knowledge of academic and administrative processes in higher education

Strong organizational and communication skills

Strategic planning and collaboration

Ability to manage competing priorities
