Job summary

Brown & Brown, Inc. seeks a Director of Absence Consulting to lead client engagements across FMLA, disability, PTO and related programs. You will shape strategy, deliver high-quality client work, and mentor teams while staying current on industry trends and regulatory changes.

You will build trusted advisor relationships with stakeholders, manage cross-functional projects, and contribute to practice strategy and offerings. Travel up to 75% is expected.

Qualifications

  • BA or BS degree in a related field or equivalent work experience; 5+ years leading people in a high-performance consulting environment.
  • 15+ years of experience in designing/managing group disability and absence management plans in consulting, brokerage, or carrier environments.
  • Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills; ability to produce senior-level reports.
  • Willingness to travel 40-75% as required by client engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide valued-added consulting on large, sophisticated absence and disability management projects.
  • Deliver client work products and manage project plans with budgets and timelines.
  • Interface with stakeholders to ensure alignment with client objectives and cross-functional teams.

Summary: The Director of Absence Consulting partners with clients to solve complex absence management challenges from strategy through execution across areas including FMLA, Sick Pay, Sick Leave, Salary Continuance, Statutory Disability, Short-term Disability, Long-term Disability, Paid Family Leave, Vacation and Paid Time-off (PTO), the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other employer-sponsored leave programs. In support of the Practice vision, the incumbent contributes to the overall strategy and product offerings of our absence consulting practice. The Director, Absence Consulting may also be responsible for people management functions.

Essential Duties and Functions: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide valued-added consulting expertise on large, sophisticated Absence and Disability Management projects including: Plan design/strategy Modeling, funding, and employee contribution strategies Vendor analysis, selection, and implementation considerations Ongoing plan management, including evaluation of program performance and trends Assist with vendor capability reviews and annual RFI’s Benchmarking analysis Plan compliance and audit support
  • Deliver superior, consistent management and deliverables for assigned clients: Serve as primary contact to Strategic Non-Medical Solutions client service team on delivery of defined work product, offering absence management subject matter expertise Draft and manage project plans involving absence assessments and client teams Accountable for the development and delivery of final client deliverables, executed in alignment with account management direction and ensuring adherence to established objectives, budgets, timelines, and quality standards
  • Manage client team expectations and raise appropriate issues to leadership for resolutions Interface with colleagues as needed to ascertain the client’s broader business objectives, ensuring work product is strategically aligned
  • Develop a trusted advisor relationship with internal and external stakeholders through effective communication and efficient, quality execution of projects
  • Maintain and demonstrate deep expertise across absence management disciplines, including FMLA, Sick Pay, Sick Leave, Salary Continuance, Statutory Disability, Short-term Disability, Long-term Disability, Paid Family Leave, Vacation and Paid Time-off (PTO), the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other employer-sponsored leave programs. Directly contribute to clients’ success through applying subject matter expertise
  • Remain current on industry trends, leave legislation and vendor updates and share information with the larger Strategic Non-Medical Solutions organization and clients
  • Contribute to thought leadership by developing industry-specific articles, whitepapers, and other intellectual capital, and by representing the organization through speaking engagements at industry conferences, client forums, and webinars
  • Build relationships internally and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams
  • Serve as mentor and resource to internal team members specific to absence management
  • Contribute to special projects as defined by leadership
  • Build and maintain library of Absence & Productivity projects, RFPs, templates, market data and other deliverables

Ability to travel, which may vary in frequency between 40-75% dependent on client activities and needs of the business.

  • BA or BS degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience 5+ years of experience leading people in a high-performance consulting environment
  • 15+ years of experience and success in the design/management of group disability and absence management plans gained in consulting, brokerage, or carrier environments.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks and prioritize tasks and assignments appropriately; results oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to produce “C” level reports, electronic presentations and manage appropriate electronic media; Articulate and knowledge-based when required to present publicly.
  • Skilled in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Solid understanding of business planning principles, practices, techniques, and tools; able to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with demonstrated consistent sound judgment and decision-making skills; ability to identify potential problems and provide proactive solutions for management of problems; able to recognize need for supplemental resources.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, PPT, Publisher) and Salesforce
  • Ability to travel, which may vary in frequency between 40-75% dependent on client activities and needs of the business.
