Job summary

Aecon U.S. is seeking a Directional Driller to support safe, efficient HDD operations on utility projects across North America. The role involves operating HDD equipment, providing field tech support, and coordinating with Foreman and crew to meet client expectations.

You will also train and mentor new hires and ensure daily reporting and safety compliance. Unionized position with pre-employment screening and adherence to safety standards are required.

Qualifications

• HDD experience or training required.
• Valid CSTS-2020 certificate is preferred.
• Ground Disturbance II certification is required or preferred.
• Experience with Vermeer or Ditch Witch HDD drills is an asset.
• Familiarity with Digitrak locating equipment is a plus.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to lift up to 25 kg.
• Must complete client site-specific training as required.
• Strong knowledge of drilling and surveying technologies and practices.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-trip/walk-around safety inspection.
• Operate Horizontal Directional Drill and/or locating equipment safely.
• Provide technical support to clients and crew.
• Keep up with drilling techniques and surveying methods.
• Manage inventory and supplies.
• Coordinate machine actions with site activities and signals.
• Understand locate marks, stakes, and property markers.
• Fulfill and communicate reporting requirements daily to Foreman/Coordinator.
• Work outdoors in various weather; meet timelines and deadlines.
• Adhere to site and Aecon policies; minimal supervision.
• Maintain clear communication with team and clients.
• Train, coach, and mentor new hires.
• Support teamwork by assisting others as needed.
