Job summary

MasTec Communications Group is seeking a Directional Drill Operator/Locator to support underground conduit and fiber optic installations while joining a safety-minded team.

You will travel on rotation across sites, with at least 2 years of urban directional drilling experience, familiarity with Vermeer or Ditch Witch rigs, and a valid Class A CDL. This long-term, hands-on role offers growth potential within a collaborative field team.

Responsibilities

• Support directional drilling for underground conduit and fiber optic installations.
• Operate a horizontal directional bore with the Drill Locator to install coax and fiber systems.
• Read utility locates and coordinate daylighting of facilities.
• Transport heavy equipment to and from the job site daily.
• Travel 100% of the time on rotation (4–5 weeks on, 5 days off).

Responsibilities

As a Directional Drill Operator/Locator, you will support directional drilling for the installation of underground conduit and fiber optic cable. You believe in doing the job right. Being the best. And you’re up for the challenge.

In addition, you will:

• Locate a Horizontal Directional Driller for the installation of underground conduit and fiber optic cable


• Operate a horizontal directional bore in collaboration with the Drill Locator to successfully install coax and fiber systems


• Ensure the safety of the public and other underground utility facilities


• Read utility locates and coordinate the daylighting of these facilities


• Transport heavy equipment to and from the job site each day


• Travel 100% of the time on rotation (Excluding PTO and holidays)


• Support various telecom projects of varying durations

Qualifications

• Open to travel 7 days per diem ($110 daily, working 4-5 weeks on, and 5 days off, on a rotating work schedule; 50-60 hours per week, depending on the weather), and working overtime consistently

Compensation of $27-$36 per hour, depending on licenses and the experience.
