Job summary

CEC Companies seeks an Operator with a fundamental understanding of construction to operate a Directional Bore machine on safety‑critical projects. The role requires readiness for travel and adherence to DOT regulations while working on heavy construction sites.

You will grease, oil, and perform daily maintenance; hand dig around utilities; and assist with loading materials and transporting equipment to job sites.

Qualifications

  • Ability to operate construction equipment.
  • Must maintain DOT compliance and possess a valid DOT Health Card.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and operate DOT registered vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the directional bore machine and related equipment.
  • Grease, oil and conduct daily maintenance of equipment.
  • Hand dig around utilities when required.
  • Operate tampers, jackhammers, drills, and saws as trained.
  • Load materials and assist with transportation to job sites.
  • Follow all safety policies and report repairs to Foreman or Supervisor.
  • Perform light repair and routine maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Assist in hauling equipment to and from job sites.
  • Clean work areas and wash equipment; support site cleanup.
  • Travel 80% of the time as required.

Job description

Position Summary

An Operator should possess a fundamental understanding of construction and be able to operate Directional Bore machine. This is a safety sensitive position.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Ability to operate a certain piece of equipment
  • Grease, oil and do daily maintenance of equipment
  • Hand dig around existing utilities when necessary
  • Trained to operate tampers, jackhammers, drills, and saws
  • Carry and load materials to be used on the job
  • Follow all company safety policies and practices
  • Report any equipment repairs needed to Foreman or Supervisor
  • Light repair and maintenance of tools and equipment
  • Assist in hauling equipment to and from job site
  • Clean up and restore work area
  • Wash and clean vehicles and equipment
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Traveling 80% of the time.
Other Education, Responsibilities and Qualifications
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Valid DOT Health Card
  • Will be operating DOT registered vehicles.
  • Must be in compliance with DOT regulations.

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead.
  • Sit for long periods of time while driving.
  • Lift or move up to 75 pounds. Constantly move about on the feet.
  • Climb ladders of all types.
  • Complete full day assignments involving overhead work.
  • Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to access all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction, but acceptable for use.
  • Must be capable of securing tools and materials from storage areas to complete assigned tasks.
  • Possess good vision, normal or corrected.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Possess good hearing, normal or corrected.
  • Must be able to positively identify different colors of wiring, conduits, and fiber optics.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest) at all times.
  • Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. This position requires flexible work hours. In order to get a project completed on time, this position may be required to work overtime, weekends, and night shifts.
  • Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
