Job summary

AHRC Nassau in Freeport, NY is seeking Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide daily assistance to individuals in Day Habilitation and ICF programs, promoting independence, safety, and well-being.

You will transport participants, support personal goals, document activities, and collaborate with the team to foster inclusion. Qualifications include a high school diploma, good communication, valid NYS driver's license, and prior experience with developmental disabilities preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• AMAP/First Aid/CPR/SCIP-R Training preferred.
• Valid NYS Driver License.
• Must transfer out-of-state license to NYS within 30 days of hire.
• Minimum 1 year experience with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensures safety of program volunteers at sites and community hubs.
• Trains program volunteers for tasks at agency, community sites, and hub locations.
• Acts as second staff support transporting volunteers to and from sites.
• Liaises between volunteer sites and program volunteers.
• Prompts volunteers to interact appropriately with peers and staff.
• Reports volunteers’ progress and concerns to Site Manager.
• Completes all required documentation.
• Promotes agency philosophies and inclusion principles at all sites.
• Ensures safety of program volunteers and reports incidents as required.
• Monitors mandatory training and maintains required certifications (CPR; SCIP; AMAP).
• Performs additional duties as requested by supervisor.
