Job summary

Samost Jewish Family and Children's Service of Southern New Jersey is hiring a Direct Support Professional to assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Cherry Hill Township. Job description

Job Title: Direct Support Professional/One-on-One

Reports to: Residential Manager

Primary Responsibilities

To use best practices and technology within a community based residential setting to teach individuals with I/DD and behavioral challenges how to acquire the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social skills needed to live as independently as possible. This position will be utilized as a direct support one‑on‑one staff assigned to a specific resident to support their one‑on‑one needs. The role also provides the option to work as a Direct Support Professional without a one‑on‑one assignment when additional hours are available; in such cases the employee will be paid the standard DSP rate.

Specific Responsibilities
  1. Provide one‑on‑one behavioral and direct care support to individuals in a residential and community setting.
  2. Collect and record data on a individual’s behavior as stated in their behaviour intervention plan.
  3. Provide crisis intervention as needed and follow the agency’s approved training program curriculum.
  4. Provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals in their home and community.
  5. Collaborate with the individual's care team to carry out their treatment and behaviour intervention plan and assist with day‑to‑day tasks to ensure health and overall well‑being.
  6. Assist with the development of independence skills based on each individual's needs.
  7. Assist the individual to the extent needed in all daily living skills.
  8. Advocate for the individual, fostering healthy relationships with peers and staff.
  9. Communicate effectively and efficiently with guardians, parents and support personnel based on the individual's needs.
  10. Administer medication and complete required documentation.
  11. Transport individuals to and from medical appointments and document all information from appointments.
  12. Assist individuals in developing a support network within the community.
  13. Assist individuals with identifying and/or accompanying them to social and recreational activities within the community.
  14. As needed, transport individuals to appointments, shopping and other activities.
  15. Accurately complete all mandatory in‑house documentation.
  16. Participate in IDT meetings for personal future planning as requested.
  17. Complete all duties delegated by the Residential Manager/Director of Residential Services.
  18. Successfully complete and demonstrate proficiency in all areas of required training.
  19. Perform any additional job duties as requested by supervisor.
  20. Cooperate with the licensee and Department of Human Services staff in any inspection, inquiry, or investigation.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Prefer associate degree or higher, or a high school diploma (or equivalent) plus two years’ experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
  • Must have a valid driver's license in the state of New Jersey. The employee’s driving abstract must not exceed five (5) points.
  • Proven work experience as a Behaviour Technician or similar role.
  • Successfully complete the agency’s training program prior to providing one‑on‑one care to effectively and safely deliver evidence‑based interventions.
  • Keep all training and certifications required for a Behaviour Technician up to date.
  • Shall be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with written and oral language.
  • Submit to a criminal background check and be determined to be not disqualified by the Department of Human Services prior to hire.
  • Agree to have their name checked against the Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities.
  • Shall submit to drug testing and receive a clear drug screen prior to employment per Stephen Komninos Law.
  • Shall submit to drug testing conducted randomly and for cause.
  • Shall complete an application to have their name checked against the Child Abuse Registry Information (CARI).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of inclusion, compassion, and the ability to problem‑solve with individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
  • Cooperate with the licensee and Department of Human Services staff in any inspection, inquiry, or investigation.
  • Fully vaccinated for Covid‑19 based on CDC and DHS requirements.
