Job summary

Weinberg Commons, a department of the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey, is seeking Direct Support Professionals for our Residential Program in New Jersey. Full-time and part-time roles available, offering a comprehensive benefits package for full-time staff.

You will support individuals in developing independence, assist with daily living skills, coordinate with guardians and staff, and participate in training and IDT meetings.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Valid driver’s license in New Jersey.
  • At least 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral language.

Job description

Weinberg Commons, a department of the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey, is seeking Direct Support Professionals for our Residential Program for full‑time and part‑time positions.

Specific Responsibilities
  1. Provide direct support to individuals by assisting with development of independence skills based on the needs of each individual.
  2. Assist to the extent needed by the individual in all daily living skills.
  3. Advocate for the individual, fostering healthy relationships with peers and staff.
  4. Communicate effectively and efficiently with guardians, parents and support personnel based on needs of the individuals.
  5. Administer medication and complete documentation.
  6. Transport individuals to and from medical appointments and document all information from appointments.
  7. Assist the individuals in developing a support network within the community.
  8. Assist individuals with identifying and/or accompanying them to social and recreational activities within the community.
  9. As needed, transport individuals to appointments, shopping and other activities.
  10. Accurately complete all mandatory in‑house documentation.
  11. Participate in IDT meetings for personal future planning as requested.
  12. Complete all duties delegated by the Residential Manager/Director, Residential Services.
  13. Successfully complete and demonstrate proficiency in all areas of required training.
  14. Perform any and all duties requested by supervisors.
  15. Cooperate with the licensee and Department of Human Services staff in any inspection, inquiry or investigation.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license in the State of New Jersey.
  • At least 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with written and oral language.
  • Submit to a criminal background check and be determined to be not disqualified by the Department of Human Services prior to hire.
  • Agree to have their name checked against the Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities.
  • Submit to drug testing and receive a clear drug screen prior to employment per Stephen Komninos Law.
  • Submit to drug testing conducted randomly and for cause.
  • Submit an application to have their name checked against the Child Abuse Registry Information (CARI).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of inclusion, compassion and the ability to problem‑solve with individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
  • Cooperate with the licensee and Department of Human Services staff in any inspection, inquiry or investigation.
  • Fully vaccinated for Covid‑19 based on CDC and DHS requirements. Benefits include generous PTO, medical, dental and vision care available at 100% cost to employee, and voluntary employee insurance available at 100% cost to employee.
