Job summary

Advocates in North Syracuse, NY is seeking a mentor (DSP/1:1 support) to help a motivated individual with a developmental disability achieve daily goals at home and in the community. You will assist with ADLs, accompany to appointments, and provide safety support.

The role offers consistent hours on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Tuesday, Thursday, with pay of $23/hour for direct support and $16/hour for indirect training.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age.
• Valid email address.
• Valid driver’s license and auto insurance if required for transportation duties.
• Sound decision‑making and problem‑solving skills.
• Understanding of the agency’s mission and person‑centered service philosophy.
• Patience, compassion, and strong communication skills.
• Ability to read, comprehend instructions, and write correspondence.
• Ability to tolerate moderate noise and distractions.
• Physical ability to sit, stand, reach, walk, push, or lift up to 50 pounds.
• Background checks required.
• GED or high‑school diploma preferred; applicable job experience preferred.
• Preferred experience working 1:1 in a related service environment.
• Knowledge of disability‑related issues preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as dressing, toileting, bathing, grooming, and meal preparation.
• Support the individual with daily routines, goal‑setting, and community participation.
• Attend appointments and provide company and safety support.
• Provide physical assistance when required, including standing, walking, or lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Document daily service time, mileage, and notes electronically.

Schedule & Pay

Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday (8:00AM – 4:30PM); Tuesday, Thursday (9:00AM – 4:30PM).

Pay: $23 per hour for direct support; $16 per hour for indirect/training support.
