Job summary

Advocates, Inc. is seeking a Mentor (DSP/1:1 support staff) to work with a friendly and social child who enjoys staying active. You will provide direct 1:1 support for activities of daily living and help the child participate in interests and outings.

Documentation of service delivery will be part of the role. The position requires a valid driver’s license, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and a compassionate, patient approach.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must have a valid email address and a valid driver’s license with auto insurance if required for the job (as applicable).
• Must demonstrate sound decision-making, patience, and compassion.
• Understanding of the Agency mission and belief in person-centered services, self-advocacy, and self-direction of supports.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions and write correspondence; basic reasoning and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to tolerate a moderate noise level and handle distractions.
• Physical ability to perform duties (sitting, standing, using hands, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds) with reasonable accommodations as needed.
• Background checks required.
• Education: GED or High School Diploma preferred; applicable job experience preferred.
• Preferred: experience 1:1 in related service environments; knowledge of disability-related issues.

• The Mentor is paid at the provider’s rate for the service based on an assessment of the specific support needs (behavioral, communication, physical).

Compensation and Benefits

• Pay rate: $20/hour when providing direct support; $16/hour for indirect/training.
• Hours: After school, with potential weekend hours.
• Location: Baldwinsville, NY 13027.
