Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Assist individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, uphold their personal rights, display patience and tolerance, provide emotional support, and build positive relationships.
- Support people to meet personal goals that enhance quality of life, engage in respectful communication using person-first language, encourage socialization, and facilitate activities that foster social connections.
- Supervise, protect, and care for individuals at all times, maintain program guidelines, facilitate learning in fire safety, and escalate signs of potential harm appropriately.
- Ensure health, wellness, and safety by providing supervision and managing crisis situations per policies and regulations.
- Support individuals in various settings according to their personalized service and behavior support plans, demonstrating OPWDD Core Competencies.
- Implement person-centered, individualized plans including safeguards like IOPs, BSPs, Staff Action, and Life Plans, understanding their goals and intentions.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment.
- Use safe handling procedures and infection control protocols.
- Assist with tasks such as personal care, ADLs, medication administration, skill development, advocacy, communication, dispute resolution, meal planning, transportation, and safeguarding funds.
- Develop understanding of clinical needs for supporting adults with challenging behaviors, autism, and medical needs.
- Implement Behavior Support Plans as written, collect and report behavior data, observe and escalate changes.
- Collaborate with team members, participate in meetings, and provide feedback for quality care.
- Complete required trainings and certifications, maintain documentation and logs, and ensure compliance with regulations including HIPAA.
- Respond appropriately to challenging behaviors using approved techniques, provide shift coverage as needed, and participate in treatment plan development.
- Operate vehicles for transportation as required, holding necessary licenses and certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Meet physical demands including walking, standing, lifting, and assisting with mobility and emergency interventions.
- Effective communication skills, enthusiasm, patience, empathy, and compassion.
- Willingness to support ADLs and handle bodily fluids.
- Basic computer skills, including email and agency systems.
- Obtain SCIP-R certification within one year.
- Obtain additional certifications as required by program.
- Develop professional relationships, remain calm under stress, and work beyond scheduled hours if necessary.
- For vehicle operations, hold a valid driver’s license and van certification.
Preferred Qualification Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience supporting people with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
