Direct Support Professional - DSP 1 (Day Habilitation)

About the Position

We are hiring Direct Support Professionals for our Day Habilitation Services in Queens.

YAI's day programs are designed to assist individuals in acquiring, retaining, or improving self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills, including communication, travel, and other areas in adult education. The activities and environments are crafted to foster life skills development and social behavior adaptation, aiming for greater independence.

The day program emphasizes community inclusion through volunteer work, relationship building, self-advocacy, and informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care services, including counseling, ADL training, personal care, and support for medical, dietary, social, sexual, recreational, financial, habilitative, and other needs.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and wellness of the individuals served.
  • Implement progressive teaching strategies to meet individualized goals, utilizing foundational teaching skills such as EMOE, task analysis, and supports/modifications.
  • Maintain a conducive learning environment using methods like Personal Outcome Measures, Person-Centered Thinking, and Informed Decision-Making.
  • Complete thorough and timely documentation to meet regulatory and billing requirements.
  • Deliver services consistently according to scheduled plans, respecting individuals' routines.
  • Implement day program plans promoting self-determination, independence, and community involvement.
  • Collect and report data for program plans, including behavior and treatment plans, and write case notes and incident reports.
  • Communicate effectively in written and verbal modes with all stakeholders.
  • Complete mandatory trainings (CPR/First Aid, SCIP, etc.) and apply learned skills.
  • Supervise individuals during recreational, community, and volunteer activities, and assist with personal purchases and fund management.
  • Perform additional tasks related to DSP duties as needed.
  • Demonstrate strong writing skills, with the ability to analyze and summarize data in progress notes.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in the I/DD field is a plus; for DSP 2, at least three years of experience is required.
  • Valid NY State Driver's License is advantageous.
  • Tuberculosis test is mandatory for most positions.
Schedule
  • Full-time, Monday through Friday
  • 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Bayside), 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM (Kew Gardens)
