Job summary

L’Arche Greater Washington, DC provides homes and direct care to adults with intellectual disabilities within a communal, faith-based setting. The assistant will join a team to support core people with daily living, health management and personal care while upholding rights and dignity.

Responsibilities include building mutual supportive relationships, following policies, and helping with transportation, routines, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Desire to work with, learn from, and relate to people with intellectual disabilities.
• Desire to work in an interdenominational Christian community.
• Independence, initiative and maturity in managing a home and working as part of a team.
• Trustworthy and responsible.
• Creativity, flexibility, attention to detail, and time organization.
• Willingness to learn simple nursing care, basic health procedures, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• To build a relationship of mutual care and support with persons with disabilities.
• To observe the rights and personal dignity of others.
• To foster a home life of unity, mutual respect, and participation by all members.
• To learn and implement the policies and procedures of L’Arche.
• To provide direct care supports, training, and supervision for core people and empower them in personal care, money management, medical care, and daily activities.
• To participate on a team and share responsibilities for household tasks, routines, meetings, and safety.
