Job summary

The Arc of Augusta provides support to adults with IDD through structured day programs and community engagement activities. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) helps participants develop independent living skills, participate in local events, and achieve personal goals in a person-centered setting.

This role requires implementing ISPs, documenting progress, and promoting safety while collaborating with families and the interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with IDD preferred.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license with a good driving record; willing to transport participants in agency vehicle.
• Must pass a criminal background check and TB screening.

Responsibilities

• Implement individualized support plans (ISPs) and daily activity schedules.
• Document daily progress notes and maintain accurate records per DBHDS and Medicaid standards.
• Accompany individuals on community outings and volunteer opportunities.
• Teach and reinforce appropriate social skills and safety awareness.
• Support individuals in accessing local events, businesses, parks, and civic activities.
• Help foster relationships with community members and promote inclusion.
• Communicate regularly with supervisors, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Follow all safety protocols, emergency procedures, and behavioral support plans.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
• Participate in regular staff meetings, ongoing training, and program development.
