Job summary

Kairos Home Care Services is seeking a Direct Support Professional to join our team in Brevard County, Florida. The DSP will assist individuals with disabilities to live independently and participate in their community, working in home and community settings.

The role emphasizes daily living support, documentation, and coordination with care teams. A valid driver’s license and prior related experience are preferred, with state-required trainings provided by APD as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must have valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Ability to work independently.
• At least 1 year of experience with disabled individuals or in home care.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily living skills (e.g., lifting, transferring, toileting, personal hygiene, laundry, meal prep).
• Promote community integration and social interaction.
• Implement outcomes developed through a Support Plan.
• Complete paperwork including incident reports and log entries.
• Administer and record medications as required by state and agency; APD training where applicable.
• Accompany residents to medical appointments when needed.
• Maintain living environment per regulations and health standards.
• Provide transportation to consumers as needed.
• Be available in emergency situations and work with staff to support the consumer.
• Communicate with and update the Supported Living Coach regularly.
• Assist with recreational, cultural and vacation plans for consumers.
• Provide independent and functional living instructions.

Direct support professionals (DSPs) are people who work directly with people with physical disabilities and/or intellectual disabilities with the aim of assisting the individual to become integrated into his /her community or the least restrictive environment. A direct support professional is a person who assists an individual with a disability to lead a self-directed life and contribute to the community, assists with activities of daily living if needed, and encourages attitudes and behaviors that enhance community inclusion.

A DSP may provide supports to a person with a disability at home, work, school, church, and other community places. A DSP also acts as an advocate for the disabled individual, in communicating their needs, self-expression and goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with daily living skills (e.g., lifting, transferring, toileting, personal hygiene, laundry, meal preparation).
• Promote appropriate community integration and social interaction (e.g. visiting family, friends, church/temple, etc).
• Implement outcomes developed through a Support Plan.
• Complete paperwork as assigned including documentation (e.g., incident reports, outcomes, log entries).
• Administer and record medications pursuant to State and Agency requirements, where applicable. With valid APD training Medication Administration Fl Code 65 G-7.
• Accompany residents on medical appointments when needed.
• Maintain living environment in accordance with D.D.A. regulations and health department standards.
• Provide Transportation to our consumer as needed.
• Make oneself available in emergency situations as the need arises.
• Work cooperatively with professional and paraprofessional staff in the interest of the consumer.
• Communicate with and update the Supported Living Coah on a regular basis, if applicable.
• Assist the consumer with recreational, cultural and vacation plans of his/her choice.
• Provide independent and functional living instructions to the consumers.
• Complete all state required trainings.
• Assist with shopping (e.g., food, clothes).

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. Required, copy.
• Must have valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Must be able to work independently.
• Must have 1 year of experience with Disabled Children/Adult, Nursing Home or Home Care.
