Job summary

Ketch-Kansas-Elks-Training-Center-For-the-Handicapped is hiring a Direct Support Caregiver in Wichita, KS. This full-time role involves teaching independence to adults with developmental disabilities and assisting with daily living activities in group home or day program settings.

The position includes orientation and training, with a variety of shifts Mon-Fri and weekends. Strong communication and reliability are essential, as is the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. EOE.

Salary Range: $14.35 To $16.00 Hourly

Supports could include teaching people how to:

-Use community resources, understand their rights, and be safety aware

-Maintain living space, personal hygiene and balance in their home life & weekly schedules

-Learn assembly and production work skills, manage break times, and build co-worker relationships

-Plan & prepare meals, grocery shop, operate household appliances, and budget

-Prepare for and participate in leisure activities – Special Olympics, sports, dances, gatherings, etc.

-Manage their sensory needs and maintain their own structured environment

Positions require assisting individuals with hygiene/personal care. A comprehensive two-week, weekday, daytime orientation is provided and required (this is excellent paid training with certifications).

Shifts: Mon-Fri 8a-4p; Fri 3p-Midnight + Sat/Sun 8a-8p; Mon-Thur 3p-Midnight; 3rd shift - Tue-Fri 12:00a Midnight to 9a; or 3 rd shift - Sat 12:00a Midnight to 8a + Sat & Sun overnight 8p-8a.

Requirements for a Direct Support Caregiver:

• High school diploma or accredited GED
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record (less than four infractions/tickets)
• Dependable transportation & proof of auto insurance
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs or ¼ of own body weight, whichever is less
• Work experience or knowledge regarding the needs of individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities is beneficial, but not required
• Able to attend a day time training during the first weeks of employment
