Northeast Michigan Community Mental Health Authority (NeMCMHA) is seeking a Direct Care Worker/Residential Training Worker to support individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health needs in residential and community settings in Alpena, MI. You will assist with daily living, activities, and documentation while promoting dignity and independence.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed care, team collaboration, and flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid Michigan driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Lived experience with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use is valued.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Knowledge of developmental disabilities and mental health issues is helpful.
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Support daily living tasks such as laundry, meal prep, and grocery shopping.
• Provide transportation in agency-owned vehicles.
• Assist with medication distribution and documentation.
• Facilitate individual and small group activities based on treatment plans.
• Participate in team meetings and person-centered planning.
• Maintain accurate records, including progress notes and incident reports.
• Create a safe, welcoming, and consistent living environment.
• Practice gentle teaching and trauma-informed care.

What You’ll Do As a Residential Support Specialist, you’ll provide direct care and support to individuals in group homes and community environments.
