Job summary

Nexstar Media is seeking a Staff Accountant to join the Corporate Accounting Department in Irving, TX. The role focuses on the monthly close process, journal entries, vendor processing, and supporting internal controls.

You will prepare financial analysis, assist with audits, and contribute to the Monthly Financial Reporting Package for management review. Strong communication and MS Office skills are essential for success in this team-oriented role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must have strong customer service skills.
• Proficiency with office equipment (phones, scanners, copiers, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of monthly accounting journal entries.
• Prepare quarterly/annual schedules for external auditors.
• Assist with Monthly Financial Reporting Package preparation for management review.
• Analyze general ledger accounts and prepare monthly financial analysis.
• Review and/or analyze general ledger accounts.
• Assist with balance sheet reconciliations.
• Enter vendor invoices and credits accurately and timely.
• Assist with vendor analysis and invoice approvals.
• Participate in various accounting projects as assigned by Sr. Accounting Manager.
• Enforce internal controls and corporate accounting policies and procedures.

Job description

The Staff Accountant supports the Corporate Accounting Department in various tasks related to the monthly accounting close process including the analysis of financial performance of various TV stations, preparing monthly journal entries, Accounts Payable processing for the Digital business, complying with monthly internal SOX controls, and other accounting functions to assist with the monthly close process.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assist with the preparation of monthly accounting journal entries.
• Prepare quarterly / annual schedules for the external auditors.
• Assist with preparation of the Monthly Financial Reporting Package for management review.
• Analyze general ledger accounts & prepare monthly financial analysis.
• Review and/or analyze general ledger accounts.
• Assist with the preparation of various balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist in the accurate & timely data entry of vendor invoices and credits.
• Assist with vendor analysis and coordination of invoice approvals.
• Various accounting projects as assigned by the Sr. Accounting Manager.
• Enforce internal control and other corporate accounting policies and procedures.

Requirements & Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The Staff Accountant must be able to sit, reach, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the Accountant must be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required.
