Job summary

Job description

Technology Programmes delivers Project Management excellence to drive the development of technology in the Americas and beyond in the Smiths Detection Business. An activity of the business area is to manage major development activities to deliver and sustain capabilities to our world-wide Customers. A key functional area to delivering these outcomes is the R&D or Engineering Function.

In order to drive efficiency, reduce costs, and assure timely delivery, it is essential for project managers to coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure appropriate effort is provided to each project. This requires robust tools to allow prioritization of projects and resource assignment based upon key metrics. This internship will focus on assisting current project managers in development and utilization of key project management tools and assisting in updating cross-funtional processes, and will identify new AI tools to help project managers in their day-to-day responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Essential functions

  • Learn processes used by Smiths Detection for project initiation and management.
  • Update ECR and POMP process documents to assure alignment across the documents.
  • Confirm reference documents are up-to-date and aligned with the new processes.
  • Create training material for ECR, POMP, and SPOE processes
  • Train technology personnel on new processes using new training material.
  • Create SharePoint site to house all documentation and ensure it is aligned with other COE’s SPOE pages.

Secondary/Support Duties:

  • Investigate and compile a report on current AI tools including a pro/con analysis, cost estimate, and value add to the team.
  • Become familiar with Microsoft Project and work with global exports to determine resources required to more efficiently utilize the software package.
  • Support project controller in weekly duties.
Qualifications

Education/Training: Degree-track undergraduate student in computer science, business, engineering.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work in matrixed environment with different profession types (i.e. engineers, software developers, project managers, etc.)
  • Platform experience working with Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project.

Supervises: Not a supervisory Role

Compensation is $15.00 - $35.00/hr and will vary depending on factors including level of school completed and type of position requirements for skills, whether technical or non‑technical.
