Job description

We’re seeking a motivated and skilled Director of our Science & Technology team to join our dynamic team focused on developing innovative products from concept to launch. This individual will play a key role in new and existing research and development activities focused on CBRNe technologies that push boundaries in performance, reliability, and user experience. This individual will also take a leadership role in the investigation and potential company involvement of relevant government funding opportunities to help establish our lead role in this market.

Job duties to include but are not limited to:

  • Management of the Science & Technology (S&T) function within the Americas Technology organization, comprised primarily of staff and senior-level scientists, including flow-down and management of company and functional goals & objectives
  • Participating as individual contributor in multiple R&D and New Product Introduction (NPI) projects and advisement in ongoing Sustaining activities
  • Acts as Subject Matter Expert for CBRNe-related technologies, including participation in design reviews to internal/external staff and management
  • Collaborates routinely and effectively with other (global) SD technical centers of excellence, primarily the CBRNe Portfolio contributors
  • Leads the development, execution, and submission of appropriate RFI responses, white papers, and full proposals linked to potential funding opportunities and solicitations; collaborate with technical writers and proposal support personnel as needed
  • Establishes and maintains compelling technical partnerships with industrial and academic institutions in support of capabilities and technologies linked to our technology and product roadmaps
  • Grows and maintains SDI’s role in thought leadership by remaining abreast of related technology development in the CBRNe field, to include routine participation in conferences, associations, and symposia
  • Routinely interfaces with Americas Technology and SDI leadership; concisely communicates technical challenges, advancements, and risks related to CBRNe projects
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with other critical functions, including Operations, Quality, and Service to foster efficient hand‑off of technology elements during the product development process
  • Manages laboratory assets and facilities to ensure S&T and cross‑functional dependencies on these facilities are met; creates and follows through on CAPEX requests for new equipment and capabilities to support NPI projects
  • Routinely liaises with HSE (Health, Safety, & Environmental) leadership to ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards
  • Works on complex technical issues in which analysis of situations or data requires an in‑depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgement in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Effectively manages human and physical assets to meet the needs of project and program resourcing, including the resolution of people resourcing conflicts with other Technology functional directors
  • Leads Intellectual Property (IP) ownership and submission of disclosures for S&T team‑related development
Qualifications

Years of Experience: Minimum of 10 years in relevant scientific research & development environment, with 5 years in people and/or program leadership role.

Advanced degree in Physical Sciences (Chemistry, Biochemistry, etc.) required; Ph.D. preferred.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Technical expertise in industry standard CBRNe technologies, including ion mobility spectrometry, mass spectrometry, gas‑phase sample collection & separations, radiation detection, etc.
  • Knowledge of standard data analysis processes and tools.
  • Experience in people and/or program management role required.
  • Extensive knowledge of standard scientific principles and methodology.
  • Working knowledge of standard Product Lifecycle Process (PLP) principles.
  • Working knowledge and application of current health and safety standards.
Benefits

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $168,631 – $252,931 per year. (Salary determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and alignment with internal and market data.)
