Job summary

Glenwood-Lynwood Public Library District is seeking a friendly, patient Digital Navigator Assistant to help patrons and staff confidently navigate today’s digital world. The role focuses on hands-on tech support, classroom instruction, and safe introduction of AI tools to meet daily digital needs.

The position emphasizes evenings and Saturdays in a part-time, non-exempt capacity. Strong communication and teaching skills are essential to guide users of all skill levels.

Qualifications

  • Experience in customer service or technology assistance is preferred.
  • Ability to explain technology clearly to users of all skill levels.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on technology assistance to library patrons and staff.
  • Develop and teach digital literacy classes for patrons and staff.
  • Assist with Windows PCs, Macs, iPhones/iPads, Android devices, and common software.
  • Introduce patrons to generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini, with safe use guidance.
  • Maintain basic service statistics and refer advanced issues to IT staff.
  • Attend meetings and perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Glenwood-Lynwood Public Library District is seeking a friendly, patient, and technology-savvy Digital Navigator Assistant to help patrons and staff confidently navigate today’s digital world.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Digital Navigator Assistant provides friendly, hands-on technology assistance to library patrons and staff through digital literacy classes, one-on-one instruction, and help with everyday computers, mobile devices, software, and internet needs. Advanced IT and network issues are referred to the Digital Navigator Coordinator or designated IT providers.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Assist with Windows PCs, Macs, iPhones/iPads, and Android devices.
  • Help users with MS Office, Google Workspace, email, websites, online forms, and internet basics.
  • Develop and teach computer and digital literacy classes for patrons and staff.
  • Provide scheduled one-on-one technology assistance and digital media lab instruction.
  • Introduce patrons to generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini, including responsible and safe use.
  • Recognize and refer advanced technical issues to appropriate IT staff.
  • Maintain basic service statistics and provide a welcoming, patient, and supportive learning environment.
  • Attends appropriate meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
  • Working knowledge of Windows, macOS, iOS/iPadOS, Android, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and teaching skills.
  • Ability to explain technology clearly to users of all skill levels.
  • Familiarity with generative AI and digital media is a plus.
  • Ability to bend, lift, stoop, and carry computer equipment
  • Ability to kneel, squat, sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time (15 minutes or more).
EDUCATION & PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

College coursework, a degree (or an expected completion within 2 years), technical certification, or equivalent training in IT, computer science, digital media, education, or a related field is highly desirable. Experience in customer service, technology assistance, help desk support, computer training, or digital literacy instruction is preferred. Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.

POSITION HOURS

This is a part-time, non-exempt position; must be able to work evenings and Saturdays. Hours will be dependent on library’s needs.
