Reports to: Director of Digital Merchandising

Employment Type: Full-Time

Location: On-site position at our headquarters in Jessup, Maryland 20723

Position Overview

League Outfitters is seeking a Digital Merchandising Specialist to help strengthen and evolve our e-commerce merchandising function.

Working closely with the Director of Digital Merchandising, this role will improve how customers discover, evaluate, and shop products across our website. The ideal candidate combines strong attention to detail with an analytical and commercial mindset and can move comfortably between hands‑on product execution and broader merchandising strategy.

This is a full-time, on-site position at our headquarters in Jessup, Maryland 20723.

This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for a candidate with prior hands‑on ecommerce experience who can contribute independently, think strategically, and help improve merchandising processes from day one.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute ecommerce merchandising strategies that improve product discovery, customer experience, conversion, and revenue.
  • Review and optimize categories, collections, product rankings, filters, and navigation.
  • Create and curate collections based on seasonality, inventory, promotions, customer demand, and business priorities.
  • Analyze onsite search behavior and improve search results, synonyms, product relevance, and zero-result terms.
  • Support promotional campaigns by merchandising featured products, collections, landing pages, and related onsite experiences.
  • Review product, vendor, category, and promotional performance and turn findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Conduct regular website audits to identify opportunities related to product presentation, navigation, content, and customer experience.
  • Monitor competitor websites and e-commerce trends to identify relevant merchandising opportunities.
  • Support testing and optimization initiatives and document results and recommended next steps.
  • Build recurring merchandising reports, scorecards, calendars, and review processes.
  • Help establish repeatable merchandising standards and best practices for the broader team.
Vendor and Product Ownership
  • Manage a select portfolio of lower-volume vendors.
  • Review assigned vendors regularly for new products, assortment changes, and product updates.
  • Ensure new products are identified, prioritized, created, and published in a timely manner.
  • Build accurate, complete, and customer-friendly product listings.
  • Validate product titles, descriptions, attributes, imagery, categorization, sizing information, and other customer-facing content.
  • Perform quality assurance after products are published.
  • Troubleshoot product data, inventory, feed, and publishing issues related to assigned vendors.
  • Document recurring issues and recommend process improvements that reduce manual work and rework.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in ecommerce, digital merchandising, site merchandising, ecommerce operations, category management, or a related field.
  • Understanding of how customers search for, compare, and purchase products online.
  • Strong hands‑on experience using Shopify or another e-commerce platform.
  • Hands‑on experience working in a Product Information Management (PIM) system or similar product data management platform.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • High attention to detail when working with product information and customer‑facing content.
  • Ability to balance recurring responsibilities with strategic projects.
  • Ability to identify opportunities, recommend solutions, and follow work through to completion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable learning and working across multiple systems.
  • Proactive, curious, and focused on continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience merchandising categories, collections, landing pages, or onsite search results.
  • Familiarity with ecommerce analytics and KPIs such as revenue, conversion rate, average order value, traffic, and product performance.
  • Experience with onsite search, product recommendation, personalization, inventory, or feed management tools.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills. (ex. Pivot Tables, Vlookup, etc.)
  • Experience in sporting goods, apparel, footwear, team sports, or another product‑driven retail environment.
What Success Looks Like

Success in this role will not be measured solely by the number of products listed.

A successful Digital Merchandising Specialist will:

  • Maintain assigned vendors and product responsibilities accurately and consistently.
  • Ensure new products reach the website within expected timelines.
  • Spend the majority of their time on proactive merchandising, analysis, and optimization.
  • Establish consistent review processes for categories, collections, search terms, and customer experiences.
  • Identify opportunities before they become urgent issues.
  • Improve how customers discover and engage with products.
  • Use data to support clear and actionable merchandising recommendations.
  • Help reduce recurring operational issues through stronger processes and root‑cause thinking.
  • Contribute to measurable improvements in customer experience, conversion, and ecommerce performance.
The Opportunity

The League Outfitters Digital Merchandising team is evolving beyond product listing and catalog maintenance toward a more proactive, data‑informed merchandising model.

This role will help build that capability by improving product discovery, category performance, onsite search, promotional execution, customer experience, and merchandising processes. It is an opportunity for someone who enjoys both hands‑on ecommerce execution and strategic merchandising thinking—and who wants to help shape the future of our digital merchandising function.
