Must be available Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with flexibility for additional days as required by operational needs.

Position Summary

The Office of San Diego County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer (District 3) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Digital Media Intern to support the Communications Team. This position provides hands-on experience in public-sector digital communications, media production, and community engagement. The intern will assist with content creation, website maintenance, event coverage, and administrative communications tasks in support of the Supervisor’s policy agenda and constituent outreach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with updating and maintaining the District 3 website, including posting press releases, official statements, and public events in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Support photo and video production for community events, press conferences, and public meetings.
  • Operate camera equipment, including Sony A7III or comparable professional mirrorless cameras.
  • Perform basic camera and equipment maintenance, including proper handling, storage, and upkeep.
  • Edit and produce digital media content using Adobe Creative Suite, including:
    • Photoshop
    • Premiere Pro
    • Lightroom
    • After Effects
  • Assist in the creation of large-format printed materials, such as posters, boards, and signage for public events.
  • Provide administrative communications support, including placing orders, coordinating logistics, and making phone calls to vendors, partners, or community members as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with the Communications and Community Engagement teams to support outreach efforts.
  • Serve as both on-camera and off-camera support, as required by assignments.
  • Transport equipment and materials to and from events as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Availability to work Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays, with flexibility for additional days.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, and After Effects.
  • Working knowledge of digital camera equipment, with experience using Sony A7III or similar models.
  • Reliable mode of transportation to travel to community events and County locations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work professionally in a public-facing government environment.

Applicants must be full-time students at a vocational program, job readiness program, or an accredited college or university with at least a 2.0 semester/quarter grade point average (GPA). Must have interest in elevating a transformative agenda at the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. Strong interpersonal skills and experience in community organizing, grassroots organizations, casework, customer care, or communications a PLUS! Bilingual speaking & writing skills welcome. Note: At the beginning and end of each semester/quarter, student workers/interns are responsible for submitting a "student unit load verification" completed by their academic institution. Student Workers shall comply with the established policies and practices of their assigned school's internship program and the County of San Diego agreement regarding eligibility requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience creating content for social media, websites, or public communications.
  • Familiarity with the public sector, government, advocacy, or community-based organizations.
  • Experience working with printed materials or production vendors.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 25 pounds or more.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work in outdoor or event-based environments for extended periods.
Work Environment

This position requires work in office settings, community locations, and outdoor environments. Evening or weekend hours may occasionally be required based on event schedules.

Time commitment and hours

15-20 hours a week for the Fall of 2026. Flexible hours, portion of work time needs to be during the regular 8am - 5pm workday, with some evening, and weekend events.

Salary

Commensurate with experience. Pay rate for Academic Student Worker is set by County ordinance and based on the number of academic units completed.

Internship Program

The Student Worker Internship program offers a fully immersive experience in a fast-paced policy and organizing environment. In addition to gaining experience in organizing, Student Workers also handle their own projects with specific deliverables and interdisciplinary learnings.
