Job summary

Pg&e is seeking a Digital Media Asset Coordinator (DMAC) to manage digital assets within a Film and Television Archive project. You will migrate assets, transform metadata, and ensure high-quality, accessible collections for licensing, research, and education.

Responsibilities include ingest scripting, quality review, and developing lifecycle management. Collaboration with Archive teams, policy development, and training will be part of the role, with hybrid/remote eligibility and a contract

Qualifications

  • Experience in archive/library/post-production environments.
  • Experience describing materials in MAMS/DAMS or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of metadata standards (PBCore, Dublin Core, MODS, MARC, XML).
  • Ability to troubleshoot, scope, and diagnose issues across teams.

Job description

Digital Media Asset Coordinator (DMAC)

The Digital Media Asset Coordinator reports to the Metadata Project Manager in the Cataloging and Metadata department. The DMAC develops and directs strategies for the management of digital assets during and after the implementation of a media asset management system (MAMS) for the Film and Television Archive. The role focuses on migrating media assets, creating and transforming metadata, and ensuring high-quality, accessible digital collections for licensing, programming, marketing, research, and education.

Responsibilities
  • Migrate media assets from servers, external drives, and LTO tapes, including ingest, troubleshooting, and metadata transformation.
  • Collaborate with Archive team members to review content files and associated metadata for quality, completeness, and organization prior to MAMS ingest.
  • Develop systematic lifecycle management processes for digital assets and consult with staff on access for licensing, research, and educational use.
  • Execute and monitor ingest scripts to ensure file integrity and document procedures for description, preservation, and security.
  • Create and maintain accessibility and content delivery systems for licensed and unlicensed assets.
  • Innovate search‑optimization and automation methods to improve user access.
  • Implement policies, recommend best practices, and define responsibilities within the MAMS.
  • Adhere to digitization workflows and advise on folder structures, naming conventions, and accession workflows.
  • Test new processes, document procedures and guidelines, and aggregate metadata from Google Sheets, Excel, and other databases.
  • Participate in Archive-wide working groups to implement procedural and system enhancements.
  • Train and support team members and student employees; assist with statistics gathering and organizational reporting.
  • Assist with special projects and daily activities as needed.
Qualifications
  • Experience working in an archive, library, or post‑production/media management environment.
  • Experience describing materials in a MAMS, DAMS, or other content management system and knowledge of metadata impact.
  • Proficiency with a wide range of audiovisual file formats (.wav, .dpx, .avi, .mov, .tiff, etc.) and experience preparing mezzanine and access files for ingest.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong accuracy, prioritization, and deadline management skills.
  • Experience developing cross‑functional partnerships, building consensus, and working effectively in a fast‑paced production environment.
  • Ability to think and act at strategic and tactical levels.
  • Strong communication skills for exchanging ideas and formulating policies and procedures.
  • Skill with tools and utilities that clean, transform, and transfer metadata between formats.
  • Working knowledge of metadata schemas and standards such as PBCore, Dublin Core, MODS, MARC, and XML.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, scope, and diagnose issues, escalating to relevant teams as needed.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills to manage complex projects independently.
  • Proficiency in written communication, including analytical reports, policy documents, and project timelines.
  • Experience in recognizing, defining, and analyzing problems to implement action plans and recommendations.
  • Knowledge of transcoding/encoding, frame‑rate conversions, color grading, and file delivery systems.
  • Ability to analyze, refine, and test scripts in a language such as Python for automation.
  • Preferred: Experience with task tracking systems, Ex Libris Alma, and advanced UC Library Search functions.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Library or Information Science or related field.
Education, Licenses, and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience and training (Required).
  • Master’s degree in Library or Information Science or related field (Preferred).
Special Conditions for Employment
  • Background check required; continued employment contingent upon satisfactory background investigation.
  • Live Scan background check must be completed prior to start of employment.
Schedule & Compensation

Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Salary range: $26.48 per hour – $53.40 per hour.
Remote/Hybrid eligibility: Yes.
Position type: Full Time, Contract.
