Gray Media is seeking a Digital Journalist to produce daily online content, including written stories and video. The role involves shooting, editing, interviewing, and writing SEO-friendly headlines to maximize online visibility.

You will work as a one-person band, handling camera operation, lighting, and audio while meeting tight deadlines and upholding journalistic ethics.

Qualifications

  • Strong on-camera presentation and verbal skills.
  • Proficiency in AP style writing.
  • Experience with non-linear video editing.
  • Technical ability to operate field cameras and audio/video gear.

Responsibilities

Job Summary / Description

The Digital Journalist is responsible for producing daily web content, including written stories and video, and assisting with other digital content when assigned.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, research, and pitch original, compelling, and relevant daily local news stories.
  • Respond immediately to breaking news assignments and adapt quickly to changing editorial priorities.
  • Function as a one-person band by operating professional video cameras, lighting, and audio equipment to gather high-quality visual and sound elements.
  • Conduct professional, concise, and informative interviews.
  • Write scripts for news packages, voice-overs, and teases in clear, conversational broadcast style, adhering to strict time limits.
  • Perform non-linear editing of video and audio elements to create visually engaging and coherent news reports.
  • Write compelling, Search Engine Optimized (SEO) headlines and summary text for all published video streams and stories to maximize online visibility and traffic.
  • Verify the accuracy of all facts, names, and information before air.
  • Adhere strictly to journalistic ethics, libel laws, and station standards and policies.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • On-camera presentation and verbal communication skills.
  • Written communication skills. with proficiency in AP Style.
  • Proficiency with non-linear video editing software.
  • Technical proficiency in operating field camera equipment.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet rapid-fire deadlines under pressure.
