Job summary

Maryland Institute College of Art is seeking Make Cool Stuff Lab Student Technicians to support the Digital Fabrication Specialist and ensure a safe learning space for First Year Experience students exploring digital fabrication.

These part-time roles require up to 10 hours weekly year-long commitment, with trainings, safety enforcement, student assistance, and basic machine monitoring for printers, cutters, sewing machines and tools.

Qualifications

• Must be a currently enrolled MICA undergraduate or graduate student.
• Experience with 3D modeling in multiple programs is preferred.
• Ability to troubleshoot Mac and Windows computers.

Responsibilities

• Work up to 10 hours weekly in the MCS Lab digital fabrication lab.
• Attend mandatory trainings and professional development workshops.
• Monitor the lab and ensure safe utilization of equipment and space.
• Enforce lab rules, etiquette and safety guidelines.
• Assist students with workflow procedures when using lab equipment.
• Monitor machines (3D printers, digital cutters, sewing machines, Dremel) and perform basic maintenance.
• Communicate issues with lab space/equipment when necessary.
• Assist with light cleaning tasks around the lab.
