Supervisor: Technical Development Manager

Job Summary

The Digital Equipment Technician is responsible for the assembly, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of digital water-quality equipment and related technologies, along with reagent preparation and production support. This position combines hands-on shop work with field deployment responsibilities and customer support activities. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, comfortable working independently, and willing to travel to support equipment installations, maintenance, and technical service needs.

This role plays a critical part in ensuring equipment is assembled accurately, deployed successfully, and maintained to high-quality standards.

  • Equipment Assembly and Preparation
  • Assemble instruments, sensors, detectors, digesters, cables, and related subassemblies.
  • Perform equipment setup, inspection, calibration, and functional testing.
  • Prepare equipment and materials for deployments, demonstrations, and customer use.
  • Package equipment and coordinate inventory and shipping activities.
  • Maintain organized workspaces and equipment records.
Field Deployment and Service
  • Travel to customer sites to support installations, deployments, repairs, and maintenance activities.
  • Assist with system startup, testing, and operational verification.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues in both field and shop environments.
  • Communicate findings, recommendations, and service updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
Technical Support and Problem Solving
  • Provide technical support for equipment operation and performance.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, sensor, and instrumentation issues.
  • Document troubleshooting activities and corrective actions.
  • Escalate complex technical issues as necessary.
Quality, Documentation, and Process Compliance
  • Follow standard operating procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate assembly, calibration, installation, and service records.
  • Ensure work is completed with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and operating processes.
Shop and Equipment Support
  • Operate and maintain shop tools and equipment.
  • Support manufacturing and production workflows as needed.
  • Assist with cable assembly, wiring, inventory management, and equipment maintenance.
  • Provide support for CAD, prototyping, laser cutting, and 3D printing projects when needed.
Reagent Production and Chemistry Support
  • Prepare, batch, label, package, and stage reagents and chemical solutions in accordance with approved formulas, standard operating procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Accurately measure, weigh, and mix raw materials using appropriate laboratory and production equipment.
  • Maintain batch records, lot traceability, inventory documentation, safety data sheets, and other required production records.
  • Perform routine quality checks and promptly document or communicate deviations, material concerns, or out-of-specification results.
  • Follow chemical-handling, personal protective equipment, storage, spill-response, and waste-disposal requirements.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred in engineering technology, environmental science, chemistry, chemical technology, electronics technology, mechanical technology, instrumentation technology, computer technology, or a related technical field.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, military training, technical certifications, and relevant experience will be considered.
Experience and Skills
  • Experience assembling, installing, maintaining, or repairing technical equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Strong customer-service and communication abilities.
  • Ability to travel regularly for field deployments and service support.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring equipment, instrumentation, sensors, water-quality systems, or electronics is preferred.
  • Experience with reagent production, chemical batching, laboratory preparation, or chemical manufacturing is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of basic chemistry concepts, including concentrations, dilutions, pH, solution preparation, and safe chemical handling, is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with calibration procedures, data collection, CAD, or technical software is beneficial.
Physical and Work Requirements
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and materials associated with the position.
  • Ability to work in shop, laboratory, field, and customer environments.
  • Ability to use tools and safely complete detailed, hands-on technical tasks.
  • Ability to travel as needed, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Ability to adjust work schedules based on customer needs, deployment timing, or field conditions.
