Job description

The Senate Sergeant at Arms is seeking a Digital Communications Specialist. This vacancy announcement closes at 7pm EST on the closing date. Late applications will not be accepted.

Required Work Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED: Five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree: Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant work experience.
Required Special Skills/ Knowledge
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and communicate it clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of professional communication principles and practices, web content management principles, information architecture, content governance, and digital publishing workflows.
  • Ability to conduct research and prepare clear, concise communications materials.
  • Experience managing content within SharePoint, content management systems (CMS), or similar digital publishing platforms.
  • Knowledge of user-centered content design principles and web writing best practices.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in preparing communications.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders across the organization.

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in communications, marketing, public affairs, information science, journalism, or a related field.
  • Senate or other Congressional experience.
  • Demonstrated success managing or improving digital content across a large, complex website, intranet, or enterprise digital environment, particularly one serving government or other large institutional audiences.
  • Significant involvement in a large-scale content inventory, audit, migration, consolidation, or website redesign project.
  • Experience developing or implementing organization-wide content governance standards, editorial processes, publishing workflows, or content lifecycle practices.
  • Experience applying web analytics, search data, user research, or other audience insights to identify needs and improve digital content and user experience, particularly for government or public-sector audiences.
  • Proven ability to advise senior leaders and work across departments or business units to build consensus and implement digital content strategies or improvements in a complex organization.
Working Conditions

To meet the needs of the U.S. Senate, the individuals in this position may be required to be on call or report onsite on a rotational basis within 24 hours. This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during government lapses in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. Work is primarily sedentary and performed at a computer. Occasional late nights and weekends. No exceptional physical demands.
