Job summary

The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) in Boulder, CO invites applications for a Digital Communications Intern. This part-time, non-exempt role (10-20 hours/week) reports to the Vice President, Communications and offers hands-on learning in digital channels, writing, editing and portfolio-worthy work.

Ideal candidates are undergrad students in journalism, PR, or marketing who are detail-oriented, eager to learn, and capable of managing multiple tasks with flexible

The Position

Position Specifications

Required:

• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
• Must be committed to excellence and possess a professional attitude.
• Must be detail-oriented with a deep commitment to accuracy.
• Must be curious and grow skillset through hands-on learning.
• Strong organizational skills and an ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to be a team player who can collaborate and, when needed, work independently with guidance.
• Ability to receive feedback well from mentors and colleagues alike and nurture a growth mindset in their work.
• Willingness to learn the following skills: digital communications (social media, email, and web); writing, editing, and proofreading; branding or graphic design.

Preferred:

• Demonstrated experience in content creation, especially social media, email marketing, and/or website management.
• Demonstrated experience with any of the following technologies: Microsoft Office, LinkedIn, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, data analytics, email marketing platforms, WordPress, and/or SharePoint.

Develop practical experience applying communications best practices by creating high ‑ quality content, managing organizational communication channels, and producing polished writing and editing samples suitable for inclusion in a professional portfolio.
