Qualifications

  • A high school diploma and related work experience in the development, integration, modification and maintenance of system programs or the design and development of system software.
  • Familiarity with integration through published APIs and web services (e.g. SOAP , REST , JSON specifications).
  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred and may be substituted for required work experience.
  • Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, tests, documents, implements, and maintains custom software, web applications, automation solutions, and system integrations when approved and when business or technical requirements cannot be effectively met through supported low-code or no-code platforms.
  • Performs front-end and back-end web development, database integration, API development, and automation scripting, as needed, using secure coding practices, established development standards, and appropriate testing and documentation procedures.
  • Supports, administers, documents, maintains, and enhances assigned web applications and digital platforms, including but not limited to enterprise content management systems, LAMP and WordPress websites, the SharePoint intranet, custom scripts, APIs, and related web services.
  • Implements, configures, and maintains security controls and operational safeguards for assigned web services, applications, and infrastructure.
  • Maintains current knowledge of emerging technologies, industry trends, security practices, accessibility standards, and best practices related to web development, digital communications, and enterprise applications through professional development, technical training, conferences, research, and self-directed learning.

Job description

The Digital Communications Developer advances the College’s digital presence by designing, developing, integrating, and maintaining enterprise web services, websites, and related applications that support the marketing, academic, and administrative missions of the College. This position assesses the web and digital communication needs of students, faculty, staff, prospective students, and the public, translating those needs into secure, accessible, and user-centered technical solutions. The role develops and maintains web applications, system integrations, APIs, and automated processes; provides technical support for web-related services through the IT service management ( ITSM ) process; administers Linux-based web hosting environments; and ensures the reliability, security, and availability of critical web infrastructure, including WordPress, LAMP applications, and enterprise web services.

Provides technical support and troubleshooting through the College’s IT Service Management ( ITSM ) process, including ticket resolution, user consultation, and issue follow-up. Participates in cross-functional projects to design, develop, implement, and integrate enterprise IT and web solutions that meet stakeholder and institutional needs.

Communicates service status, business impact, restoration progress, and verified root-cause findings to appropriate stakeholders in a timely and transparent manner. Utilizes established processes and tools for incident, problem, change, and knowledge management to support continuous service improvement and operational excellence.

Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data by implementing appropriate protections for data at rest and in transit, secure configurations, least-privilege access, patch management, vulnerability remediation, monitoring, and incident response practices. Deploys and maintains tools and services for system monitoring, traffic analysis, intrusion detection, logging, performance monitoring, and service availability.
