Position Summary
Provides comprehensive nutrition assessments and develops care plans for patients. Plans special diets and instructs patients/significant others and/or hospital personnel in principles of nutrition and modifications of normal diets to maximize patient education and motivation. Acts as a primary liaison with the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Possesses knowledge of nutrition care principles for acutely or chronically ill patients in specialty areas such as diabetes, cardiovascular, oncology, renal, surgical, and nutrition support. Ensures care within JCAHO and ADA standards to enhance inpatient and outpatient care quality. Develops and adapts educational materials and menus for specific patient groups. Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and training of new staff and dietetic students. Utilizes Meditech system and provides Medical Nutrition Therapy to outpatients as needed. Must have excellent communication and counseling skills.
Includes applying standards of care, conducting nutrition assessments, integrating care plans, re-assessment procedures, providing education, documentation in Meditech, charging for services, participating in interdisciplinary rounds, managing nutrition support, and maintaining current knowledge of standards and regulations.
