Salt Lake Behavioral Health operates a full-service kitchen serving 3 meals a day to 200+ employees and patients. The Dietary Manager plans and oversees the preparation of delicious, well-balanced meals while considering special dietary needs, allergies, and preferred diets. Responsible for smooth day-to-day operations, ensuring a clean, safe, and compliant kitchen. The Dietary Manager leads by example through communication, creativity, availability, and flexibility.

Duties Include
  • Training and supervision of food service staff
    • Oversee a team of 7 dietary staff members
    • Encourage a professional team rapport and positive kitchen environment
    • Train and improve staff and food quality
    • Communicate expectations and responsibilities
    • Create work schedules, monitor attendance and PTO
    • Participate in hiring and onboarding
    • Conduct performance and skills evaluations
    • Address performance concerns following hospital policy
  • Ordering and menu preparation
    • Collaborate with the dietician to create weekly menus, including special diets and seasonal foods
    • Manage departmental budget and resource use
    • Place weekly food orders and oversee inventory
  • Kitchen Management
    • Oversee inventory and ensure FIFO procedures
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
    • Maintain proper food handling, preparation, and storage practices
    • Develop recipes and presentation standards
    • Ensure food quality and consistency
    • Step in to cover kitchen positions if needed
  • Leadership Duties
    • Report to upper management and participate in meetings
    • Improve patient food scores and implement improvement plans
Qualifications
  • Physical Requirements
    • Lift 50 lbs.
    • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling
    • Ability to stand for entire shift
  • Requirements
    • High School Diploma required; Culinary degree preferred
    • 5+ years in food service, preferably in institutional settings
    • 3+ years supervisory experience in kitchen
    • Food Handlers Permit required
    • ServSafe certification required within 90 days
