Job summary

Lovington Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Cook to prepare meals according to menus and standardized recipes, ensuring nutrition and safety in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations. You will monitor food handling, temperatures, and sanitation while serving residents on schedule.

This full-time on-site role requires coordinating with supervisors and dietitians for menu changes, and maintaining quality through proper equipment use and sanitation practices.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meal items according to planned menus and standardized recipes.
• Review menus, resident census information, production guides and pre-prep sheets to determine type and quantities of food to be prepared.
• Prepare food according to safe food handling guidelines per company policy and state and federal codes and regulations.
• Assist with food ordering, storage and preparation as designated by the supervisor; prepare food in a timely manner to preserve quality and serve meals on time.
• Maintain standards for food preparation and quality of food service; use nutritionally equivalent substitutes when required; follow recipes.
• Operate kitchen utensils and equipment (blenders, mixer, slicer, steamer, processor, oven, range, tilt skillet) and cook accordingly.
• Prepare consistency modified and diet foods; assist with special function meals.
• Complete pre-preparation including washing, peeling and cutting vegetables and fruits; slice meat and weigh for nutrition accuracy.
• Prepare and serve food attractively with gravies, sauces and garnishes; test for palatability.
• Monitor and record food temperatures prior to meal service.
• Make and record menu changes under supervision; use nutrition substitutes and obtain approval when needed.
• Maintain proper hand washing; thaw foods; store with correct packaging; use gloves; check temperatures of fridges/freezers.
• Follow cleaning schedule; clean equipment and work area; mop floors; take out trash; wash pots and pans.
• Meet meal schedules; dietary manager absent, dietary aide reports to Cook.
• Other duties as assigned.
