Job Overview

The Food and Nutritional Cook prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, following established policies and procedures. The role involves working under the direction of the Head Cook and/or Director of Food and Nutritional Services to ensure quality nutritional services at all times. Experience in a healthcare nutrition setting and knowledge of quantity food preparation and portioning are preferred. Multiple shifts available; hours and pay will be discussed during the interview.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Prepare, season, cook, and serve meals for assigned diets according to recipes, diet orders, and menus.
  2. Ensure meals are palatable and visually appealing.
  3. Prepare meals following portion control standards.
  4. Assist in food production and prepare snacks as directed.
  5. Process diet changes and new diet requests from nursing.
  6. Monitor food temperatures to meet safety standards.
  7. Provide appropriate utensils and equipment for residents.
  8. Review care plans to ensure food consistency with resident needs.
  9. Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work areas.
  10. Manage food storage and inventory.
  11. Follow all safety, infection control, and confidentiality policies.
  12. Participate in ongoing education and quality improvement initiatives.
  13. Support and participate in QAPI activities.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Work in various areas of the facility, with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to move, stand, speak, and write effectively.
  • Handle physical demands, including lifting up to 25 pounds and assisting in emergency evacuations.
  • Meet health and safety requirements, including a medical exam.
  • Work effectively with residents, staff, and support agencies, including those who are ill or emotionally upset.
