Job summary

Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Retirement Services is seeking a dedicated cook to prepare and serve meals for residents. You will follow diet cards, manage daily kitchen duties, and coordinate with dietary staff to ensure meals meet nutritional standards.

The role requires attention to food safety, proper portioning, and reliable teamwork in a busy dining operation at our retirement community.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 months related experience and/or training.
  • Previous cook experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers all food needed for mealtime and reports shortages to Food Service Director.
  • Plates all food items for residents and staff.
  • Prepares various foods according to the menu created by the dieticians, following regulations.
  • Operates kitchen equipment such as mixer, meat slicer, oven, steamer.
  • Serves meals in a safe manner and follows all requirements.
  • Directs activities of one or more workers who assist in preparing and serving meals.
  • Accurately follows diet cards when serving residents.
  • Takes and documents food temperatures.
  • Cleans kitchen and all kitchen equipment.
  • Assists in putting away dietary stock and rotation of supplies.
  • Keeps coolers clean and organized, checks expiration dates.
  • Follows portion control guidelines.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident, staff, and organization information.

Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous cook experience required.
