Job summary

Lowell General Hospital – Saints Campus is seeking a Diet Aide for per diem coverage. The role supports dietary and food services, including menu planning, tray assembly, and sanitation across patient care areas.

The position involves standing for long periods and lifting, with day/evening shifts and every other weekend/holiday requirements. Minimum qualifications include food service experience, a high school diploma, and hospital food service exposure.

Qualifications

• Food service experience.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• One year in hospital food services.

Responsibilities

• Maintain diet order information to ensure patients receive proper meals.
• Collect patient dietary preferences and alert the dietitian to nutritional issues.
• Assist with menu selection and write/adjust regular and modified diets.
• Deliver and collect patient trays.
• Follow PPE and hand hygiene standards; PPE as required.
• Stock unit pantries with nourishments using FIFO.
• Assemble accurate patient trays on the tray line; prepare items.
• Operate kitchen utensils for weighing, cutting, and cooking.
• Prepare hot/cold foods and store per temperature guidelines.
• Maintain sanitation and temperature logs per regulations.
• Assist with setup, stocking, serving and delivering from stations.
• Clean and sanitize dishware and equipment; manage dish room.
• Remove trash and recycle; manage waste areas.
• Collaborate with team to achieve goals; foster positive environment.
• May prepare special nutritional products; tube feeds for high-risk patients.
• May operate a cash register and handle payments.
