Prepares and serves food to all patients, staff, and visitors while maintaining a high level of service and sanitation.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Dietary Aide at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Follows patients menus accurately on the serving line. Also responsible for serving in the cafeteria and grill.
  • Prepares salads, coffee, and desserts in accordance with meal schedules.
  • Prepares late trays as required.
  • Delivers food carts to designated places on occasion and ensures that carts are returned to the kitchen.
  • Washes dishes, cookware, flatware, and trays using approved procedures.
  • Washes pots, pans, cooking utensils and small equipment, following established sanitation procedures. Inspects all item for cleanliness.
  • Returns clean equipment to their proper place in the kitchen.
  • Maintains clean wash and rinse water, adding the designated sanitizing agent to the final rinse. Maintains a high level of sanitation in the pot washing area.
  • Sets up counter, beverage system, coffee, grill, steam table, condiment station and serving line.
  • Cooks and serves grilled items, according to customer requests.
  • Follows proper cash handling procedures when working the cafeteria register
  • Ensures delivery of excellent customer service resulting in positive and improving patient satisfaction scores for department and Medical Center.
  • Portions, serves and replenishes dessert, pastries, salads, hot foods, etc.
  • Replenishes paper and silverware products.
  • Wraps, stores and dates excess food and places in appropriate refrigerators. Cleans and maintains entire work area following service.
  • Cleans all tables and chairs.
  • Assists with service and setting up for special meetings.
  • Relieves cafeteria personnel when necessary.
  • Delivers nourishment to nursing units as required.
  • Collects and removes trash and garbage to designated containers.
  • Cleans work areas, equipment, walls, cabinets, storage areas, and other areas assigned in accordance with established procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • At least six (6) months' prior experience in a food service department preferred.

Starting Minimum Rate
