Job summary

The Hermitage in Sylva, NC is seeking a compassionate Dietary Aide to join our culinary team and help provide nutritious, resident-centered meals for our residents.

You will assist with meal service, kitchen sanitation, and adherence to dietary plans while supporting the dietary team to create a positive dining experience for residents.

Strong communication, teamwork, and a commitment to food safety are essential, as is a caring attitude toward the elderly we serve.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience in a food service is a plus.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is important.
  • Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
  • Compassion for and a desire to work with the elderly.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Meal Assistance: Help prepare, portion, and serve meals to residents according to dietary plans and special requests.
  • Sanitation & Cleanliness: Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and dining areas; wash dishes, utensils, and equipment as needed.
  • Resident Support: Provide meal assistance during setup and serving to ensure a positive dining experience.
  • Food Safety: Follow all food safety protocols including storage, handling, and sanitation practices.
  • Inventory Support: Assist in receiving and storing food and supplies; notify Dietary Manager of shortages.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with the dietary team to ensure smooth kitchen and dining operations.
  • Resident Engagement: Fulfill special dietary requests and respect residents' preferences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Meal Assistance: Help prepare, portion, and serve meals to residents according to dietary plans and special requests.

  • Sanitation & Cleanliness: Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and dining areas. Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment as needed.

  • Resident Support: Provide meal assistance to residents as needed, including helping with meal setup and serving, and ensuring a positive dining experience.

  • Food Safety: Follow all food safety protocols, including proper food storage, handling, and sanitation practices, to ensure food is safe for consumption.

  • Inventory Support: Assist in receiving and storing food and supplies, checking inventory, and notifying the Dietary Manager of any shortages or supply needs.

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the dietary team to ensure the kitchen and dining areas run smoothly, assisting with food prep and meal service as directed.

  • Resident Engagement: Assist in fulfilling special dietary requests and ensuring residents’ individual preferences and needs are met during meal times.


Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)

  • Previous experience in a food service role (preferred, but not required)

  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices

  • Ability to follow directions and work efficiently as part of a team

  • Compassion for and a desire to work with the elderly

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
