Job summary

Embrace Hospice House in Myrtle Beach, SC is seeking a dedicated Dietary Aide to support meal preparation and delivery for hospice patients in our care facility.

You will follow dietary guidelines, ensure safe sanitation, and provide compassionate service to patients, families, and staff while maintaining a clean, organized kitchen environment.

This full-time role requires teamwork, ability to lift up to 25 pounds, and adherence to infection control policies as part of compassionate hospice care.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous food service or healthcare dietary experience preferred.
  • Driver’s license; not listed in OIG Excluded Provider listing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation, portioning and serving meals per dietary guidelines.
  • Deliver meals to patient rooms and ensure timely presentation.
  • Follow safe food handling, storage and sanitation procedures.
  • Keep work area clean and organized, wash dishes and equipment.
  • Monitor supplies and notify supervisor of shortages.
  • Follow care plans for patient dietary needs and restrictions.
  • Provide compassionate interaction with patients and families.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety policies.

Job Summary:

The Dietary Aide is responsible for assisting in the preparation and delivery of meals to hospice house patients, ensuring meals meet dietary requirements and patient preferences. This role ensures a clean, safe, and sanitary environment while providing compassionate service to patients, families, and staff.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist in the preparation, portioning, and serving of meals and beverages in accordance with dietary guidelines and patient care plans.
  • Deliver meals to patient rooms, ensuring presentation and timeliness meet hospice standards.
  • Follow safe food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures at all times.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist with inventory control by monitoring supplies and notifying supervisor of shortages.
  • Ensure patient dietary needs and restrictions are followed as outlined in care plans.
  • Provide respectful, compassionate interaction with patients and families while performing job duties.
  • Adhere to all infection control and safety policies.
  • Assist with special requests or modified diets as directed by leadership.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Conforms to all applicable Agency policies and procedures.
  • Participates actively in continuing education and in-services.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information and business trade practices
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with staff, patients and families.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • Commitment to providing compassionate care in a hospice environment.

Information Management:

Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security.

Cooperates fully in all risk management activities and investigations.

Maintains Agency/program compliance with local, state, and federal laws as well as state accreditation standards.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Previous experience in food service or healthcare dietary services preferred.

Driver’s license; no listing in the OIG Excluded Provider listing

Environmental Conditions:

Works under a variety of conditions in facilities; ability to work flexible schedule. Moderate noise level; tasks may involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens; moderate stress and emotional demands.

Physical Requirements:

Standing is required.
