Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Massachusetts seeks a Diet Aide to support patient meals and kitchen operations under Diet Supervisors. Under supervision, you will follow hygiene protocols, prepare and deliver trays, operate dishwashing equipment, and assist with cashiering.

This non-exempt role offers evening shifts, part-time hours, and opportunities to grow within a compassionate care team that values safety, respect, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Preferred: Food service experience in a healthcare facility.
• Good interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to read and comprehend patient meal ticket information.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Physical stamina for frequent movement and standing.
• Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
• Required: Read, write, speak & understand English at an 8th-grade level.

Responsibilities

• Follows proper hygiene and safety protocols (e.g., hand washing, glove usage, HACCP guidelines).
• Maintains a sanitary and safe work environment.
• Provides courteous customer service and communicates effectively.
• Prepares and delivers food trays accurately and efficiently.
• Operates dishwashing equipment and maintains cleanliness.
• Assists with food production, cafeteria service, and cashiering.
• Completes required training and adheres to departmental standards.
• Demonstrates flexibility, teamwork, and initiative in daily tasks.

$15.00 - $23.32

Under the direct supervision of the Diet Supervisors, the Dietary Aide performs a variety of food service, dish room duties, and cash handling duties as well as other related activities.

Major Responsibilities

II. Position Qualifications

• License/Certification/Education:
  • Required:
    • Ability to read, write, speak & understand English at an 8th-grade level.
