Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a food service worker to support kitchen operations and patient meal delivery. The role includes preparing trays, serving meals, and maintaining a clean, safe environment in a hospital setting.

Hours include evening shifts with a 7AM-3:30PM and 4 PM close option, on-site work, and potential signing bonus eligibility. The team emphasizes quality, safety, and respectful patient care across departments.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, speak & understand English at an 8th-grade level.
• High school graduate preferred.
• Serve Safe certification.

Responsibilities

• Follows hygiene and safety protocols (e.g., hand washing, glove usage, HACCP guidelines).
• Maintains a sanitary and safe work environment.
• Provides courteous customer service and communicates effectively.
• Prepares and delivers food trays accurately and efficiently.
• Operates dishwashing equipment and maintains cleanliness.
• Assists with food production, cafeteria service, and cashiering.
• Completes required training and adheres to departmental standards.
• Demonstrates flexibility, teamwork, and initiative in daily tasks.
• Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
• Attends meetings, conferences, and seminars as required.
• Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
• Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
• Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility, and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors.
• Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
• Performs other similar and related duties as required.

II. Position Qualifications

• 1. License/Certification/Education:
• Required:
• Ability to read, write, speak & understand English at an 8th-grade level.

• 2. Experience/Skills:
• Preferred:
• Food service experience in a healthcare facility.
• Good interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to read and comprehend patient meal ticket information.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Physical stamina for frequent movement and standing.
• Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
