Job summary

Milton CAT is seeking mechanically inclined individuals for its Diesel Technician Trainee program in Batavia, NY. The program starts January 2027 and includes 2,000 hours of training over a 12-month period with 1,600 hands-on and 450 instructor-led hours.

Participants rotate through various technical areas, travel regionally for on-site orientations at our Massachusetts facility (expenses paid), and may be offered a full-time technician position at Milton CAT or Milton Rents upon successful

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1+ years experience servicing heavy equipment or equivalent training preferred.
• Safety, customer service, problem solving and communication skills essential.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and learn rapidly.
• Clean, valid driver's license and basic computer skills expected.

Responsibilities

• Complete 2,000 hours of training over 12 months: 1,600 hands-on and 450 instructor-led.

Overview

We are looking for highly driven, mechanically inclined individuals passionate about developing a career as Heavy Equipment or Electric Power Generation technician to join the Milton CAT Diesel Technician Trainee program! The Diesel Technician Training program has a set start date in January 2027, and we are hiring now for a limited number of trainee spots.

Responsibilities

The Diesel Technician Training program consists of 2,000 hours of intensive training across a 12-month period, including:

• 1,600 hours of hands on, on-the-job training
• 450 hours of instructor led training and computer based learning

Trainees will rotate through a variety of technical areas within our facilities and work elbow-to-elbow with some of the best Caterpillar technicians in the industry.

Regional travel is required to attend on-site orientations and training classes at our corporate facility in Massachusetts. All company based training and travel expense is paid.

The Diesel Technician Trainee program is a highly selective program. Candidates must complete an online application to be considered for the program. Successful applicants will participate in an interview process prior to being notified of a decision regarding acceptance into the program. Acceptance is not guaranteed as spaces are limited.

Upon successful completion of the Diesel Technician Trainee program, Trainees have the opportunity to be offered a full-time technician position at any Milton CAT or Milton Rents location.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• 1+ years of experience servicing heavy equipment, or equivalent education in automotive/diesel/related mechanical vocational program strongly preferred
• Strong adherence to safety, and strong customer service, problem solving, and communication skills
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted
• Solid mechanical aptitude with a desire to learn and ability to adapt
• Proficient in the use of computer technology (laptop and related software systems)
• Clean and valid driver's license required
