Job summary

Allegiance Fire and Rescue is seeking a Diesel Technician to perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on our fleet of vehicles and equipment in Linden, NJ. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, proper tooling, and the ability to read repair orders to execute detailed repairs.

The position offers hands-on responsibilities across engines, transmissions, and components, with a performance-based incentive pay plan and a $150 annual boot program.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years minimum work experience as a Medium and/or Heavy Diesel Technician
• Valid driver’s license is required
• Must possess a full set of personal hand tools
• Must have completed diesel/ automotive certificate programs or have equivalent hands-on experience
• Ability to use a computer and basic applications

Responsibilities

• Provide technical service on vehicles and equipment including troubleshooting, electrical and diagnostic services
• Read Repair Orders and perform general and detailed repair of all trucks, engines and components
• Install injectors, pistons, liners, cam shafts, cylinder heads, bearings, and other parts
• Examine guards, bolts, and safety devices and adjust as needed
• Lubricate moving parts and drive repaired vehicle to verify repairs meet specifications
• Advise the Service staff if additional repair work is necessary
• Tag all return warranty parts
• Maintain a neat, safe work environment and handle tools properly
• Follow safe work practices and seek assistance when necessary
• Other projects/initiatives as assigned
