Penske Diesel Technician/Mechanic - Roadside Assistance Albany, Georgia

This diesel technician/mechanic position at Penske focuses on providing top-tier roadside assistance services. Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing various truck maintenance issues in all weather conditions, ensuring safety on the roadside.

Qualified candidates should have demonstrated experience in tractor trailer repair and proficiency with repair tools. Willingness to drive a fully equipped Penske Road Assist vehicle is required.

Major Responsibilities:
  1. Respond promptly to roadside calls, diagnosing and repairing units by identifying parts needing replacement and warrantable repairs, with proper documentation.
  2. Perform diagnostics and quick repairs outside of roadside calls as needed.
  3. Restock the roadside assistance vehicle with tools, parts, and tires to ensure effective service.
  4. Maintain and repair the roadside assist vehicle as required.
  5. Assist with in-shop repairs when not on roadside calls, as directed by the supervisor.
  6. Complete other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:
  • 2-4 years of practical tractor trailer maintenance experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Vocational/Technical training or certification preferred
  • Specialized training in vehicle component repair preferred
  • Proficiency with shop tools required
  • Basic computer skills for maintenance data entry preferred
  • Ability to work in non-climate-controlled environments
  • Ability to follow specific instructions, guidelines, and safety policies, including DOT, OSHA, and Penske standards
  • Regular, predictable attendance
  • Willingness to travel within the district, work scheduled hours, and pass background and drug screenings
  • Must maintain a current driver qualification file, including MVR check, DOT physical, and safety records; CDL holders require additional DOT drug screening and FMCSA Clearinghouse review
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent movement, standing, walking, climbing, bending, and sitting
  • Routine use of hands for operating tools and controls
  • Ability to work safely at heights using ladders and platforms
  • Work in all weather conditions
  • Good vision and hearing to navigate the work environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs occasionally
Salary & Shift Differentials:

$24.75 - $31.06 hourly, negotiable

Second shift (after 11 am): +$2.00/hour

Third shift (after 9 pm): +$3.00/hour
