Job summary

Interstate Waste Services in Valley Cottage, NY is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on heavy diesel trucks and equipment. PMI and major component rebuilds are required, with focus on accurate diagnostics and effective repairs.

Candidates should have 3–5+ years as a class A or B mechanic, experience with fleet maintenance software, and trade school training is a plus.

Qualifications

Inspection, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment including diesel heavy trucks and engines.
Performs preventive maintenance inspection (PMI) and troubleshoots, repairs, and rebuilds major components.
Ensures accurate diagnosis and effective repair always.
Supports safety procedures and proper documentation.

Responsibilities

Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
Complete required paperwork using fleet maintenance software for parts usage, repair times and times.
Assist in repair and adjustment of equipment.
Washes vehicles and equipment.
Conduct safety checks on vehicles.
Assist with service calls for breakdowns.
Perform other maintenance-related tasks as required.
Maintain a clean, safe work area per OSHA standards.
