Job summary

Republic Services is offering a Technician Apprenticeship across the United States. The program trains entry-level technicians in electrical diagnosis, air conditioning, wheel ends, air systems, air brakes, hydraulics, and preventative maintenance.

Participants receive nine weeks of paid training at the Dallas Technical Institute, followed by twenty-two months of on‑the‑job training with mentorship to achieve Apprentice certification and potential advancement.

Qualifications

• No prior technician experience required; two-year apprenticeship with company support.
• Technical training provided through Republic Services Technical Institute.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in vehicle systems preferred.

A Technician performs routine and preventive maintenance on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks. The Technician Apprenticeship program will train an entry level technician over a two-year period in the following:

• Wheel end assembly component identification & inspection.
• Air brakes component identification & inspection.
• Hydraulics component identification and inspection.
• Truck preventative maintenance.

The Apprentice Training Experience

Republic Services Technical Institute offers a unique learning and development environment in which employees will gain on-the-job work experience while completing their technician education.

Over the two (2) years of your apprenticeship, your training will start with nine (9) weeks of company-paid training at our brand-new state-of-the-art Republic Services Technical Institute in Dallas, Texas.

Successful graduates of the training program will continue with an additional twenty-two (22) months of on-the-job training (OJT) that includes mentorship and virtual instructor led technical content while working towards Apprentice certification as a Republic Services entry level Diesel Mechanic.

We recognize that individuals may come with different levels of existing technical competencies and may advance through the program at a different pace. As such, individuals who demonstrate accelerated development and achieve the required milestones can move to a Level C Technician in advance of the twenty-two (22) month requirements.

In addition to acquiring cutting-edge technical skills, the Technical Institute will teach critical life and leadership skills while building strong professional networks across the Company to set you up for a long-term career at Republic. Through participation in this innovative program, apprentice employees will be supported by your dedicated Mentor who will help you to reach the milestones needed to successfully complete your apprenticeship journey to move to a Level C Technician within the Company.

Upon placement in one of our business units nationwide, you will receive direct supervision from a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor or Manager and through completion of the Republic Preventative Maintenance Program and other on-the-job work completed during the apprenticeship, the apprentice receives hands‑on experience that supports what they are learning in school. This includes the basic skills necessary to perform routine preventive maintenance, including basic tire work, wheel end components, mechanic skills, knowledge of hydraulics and knowledge of electrical systems.
