Job description

Position Summary

The Diesel Technician maintains diesel equipment, completes inspections and preventive maintenance requirements, corrects vehicle deficiencies, performs adjustments and alignments, and maintains records to ensure safety and customer service commitments.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Performs all job duties in accordance with company safety policies and regulations.
  2. Performs maintenance tasks based on driver pre- and post-trip inspections promptly or as directed by the maintenance manager.
  3. Maintains diesel equipment by completing inspections and preventive maintenance, making necessary corrections.
  4. Works in adverse conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow to repair equipment and vehicles.
  5. Builds and assembles machines or mechanical components as required.
  6. Troubleshoots reported problems and resolves them promptly.
  7. Maintains all relevant records for work performed and reports issues.
  8. Performs accurate lockout/tagout procedures.
  9. Runs diagnostic tests on vehicles, analyzes results, and performs test drives to diagnose malfunctions.
  10. Performs necessary procedures to ensure maximum reliability and safety, including preventive maintenance, tire changes, brake repairs, and hydraulic component replacements.
  11. Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge and supports company vision, mission, and core values.
Career Path Definitions & Distinctions

Technician Apprentice: Works alongside experienced Casella Waste Diesel Technicians to learn and develop skills, focusing on preventative maintenance and safety.

Technician B: Identifies operating issues using testing procedures and diagnostic equipment, and corrects problems.

Technician A: Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs vehicle systems to ensure safety and dependability.

Master Technician: Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs all vehicle and equipment systems, including rebuilding engines and replacing major components.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

The candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED, be at least 18 years old, hold a valid Class A, B, or C driver’s license, and be legally eligible to work in the U.S. with at least 1 year of relevant experience. Excellent communication, listening, problem-solving, and teamwork skills are desired. Successful completion of pre-employment testing, including a drug screen, is required.
